The Calligraphy Guild of Indiana
“Calligraphy may well be simply an artistic version of another form, that is the ideograms which make up the poem, but then not only does it reflect the character and temperament of the artist but . . . also betrays his heart rate, his breathing.”
― Sijie Dai, Once on a Moonless Night
Brush Textures with Loredana Zega
The brush is a soft tool which requires total focus, self-confidence and patience. It creates marvelous traces of colors and textures, which is why dry brush techniques goes so well with any kind of textures. The subtle lines and soft touches of the brush will change your views of how calligraphy exercises should be: light and soft. In this special workshop, dry brush will be explored on various examples of Loredana's own scripts or alphabets which you already know. In the end, well talk about color and composition in order to make a final piece, full of textures, colors and transparency.

Dancing Brush Script
Dancing script is Loredana's version of Italic script, which she developed when she was practicing Roman Capitals and needed a break from a steady hand and the exact geometrical strokes. Dancing script is partially written with the corners of the brush - which is a big challenge considering that most of use hard tools that provide stability when writing with the corners of the nibs! The movement with the brush in this script creates beautiful rhythm, which forces your brush to start dancing on its edges - hence, the name dancing script!
Note: This workship is most suitable for intermediate or advanced students.
