At the September 15 , 2018 guild meeting, always creative Kathy LaPorte showed a few ways in which the paste papers that were created at the July 21 paste paper party can be used. Some people copied their paste paper onto both sides of 8 ½ “ X 11” paper, preferably a heavier weight than copy paper. Arches Text Wove , Canson , scrapbook paper, and even cardstock could also be used. Kathy provided patterns which could be paper-clipped to the paste paper and cut out. The pattern could also be cut out first and traced onto the paper before cutting out. This participant found that keeping the pattern paper-clipped to the paste paper for folding made it easier, as no marks were necessary. The dotted lines on the pattern could be followed while attached to the final paper.
Kathy provided several patterns , one for a rectangular box (could hold cookies) and one hexagonal box with a lid. She provided the web location for these boxes and many other kinds from the website: http://templatemaker.nl .
Gluing was done with a glue stick. Kathy cautioned us to make sure the glue stick was not “repositionable” glue. It should be “permanent” glue. It’s best to apply the glue to both parts being glued, wait a minute, and then press the parts together. Yes™ glue works exceedingly well, also.
Kathy has several other tricks up her sleeve. She makes random marks on Arches Text Wove with a brush and gesso. When that dries, she makes gestural marks with a brush and walnut ink. Another technique is to do gestural writing in black ink on white paper. This she scans and prints over her copies of paste paper. Another trick is to make white marks or letters on dark paper and have it printed at a copy center. It costs no more than black ink on white paper.
