July General Members Meeting

Date: July 17, 2021

Time: 10am - 1pm

Location: Zoom Virtual Meeting please check emails for details.

Topic: Drawing from the teachings of Gemma Black, Dawn Ponist will share the history of the Fibonacci sequence and how it relates to art. We will draw, paint and letter using the Fibonacci Spiral as our basic structure. A Fibonacci spiral starts with a rectangle partitioned into 2 squares. In each step, a square the length of the rectangle's longest side is added to the rectangle. Since the ratio between consecutive Fibonacci numbers approaches the golden ratio as the Fibonacci numbers approach infinity, so too does this spiral become more like the previous approximation the more squares are added.

Supplies:

  • Scraps of fine art paper that will accept watercolor and/or some…

  • Bond paper and/or a notebook

  • A clear ruler with clear mm markings

  • An eraser

  • A sharp lead pencil, Gemma likes the mechanical 0.5 for technical drawing

  • Some watercolors if you like to use them. Mix some up to be ready to paint with, or substitute watercolor pencils or colored pencils

  • Rag, sponge, or paper towels at your disposal

  • A compass: the type for drawing circles--not the type for determining magnetic North
